The largest children’s literary event in Canada, Forest of Reading® Festival of Trees™ returns for two days of prize ceremonies, fun workshops, author signings, and other exciting activities that celebrate the shared experience of reading. In 2009, this children’s choice award programme welcomed more than 7,000 students and the 2010 event will prove even bigger! Now included in your ticket price is the chance to attend ALOUD: a Celebration for Young Readers. Join one of six internationally celebrated authors to discover the stories behind their new books; for grades K to 12. Past ALOUD participants include Frank Beddor, Kathryn Otoshi and Jacqueline Wilson. Presented by Authors at Harbourfront Centre in partnership with the Ontario Library Association.

Multidisciplinary hands-on programmes – offered in partnership with leading professional dance and theatre companies (as part of Harbourfront Centre's World Stage and NextSteps – that expose students to performance and culture. Each programme includes a matinee performance, an interactive audience talk-back session, and can be followed by a hands-on workshop.

Your class has the rare opportunity to meet with leading artists and discuss their art forms, their choices and the facilitation of these choices. A monthly lunch offers a rare glimpse into the creative process of contemporary visual artists, performers, editors, producers and writers. More information will be posted shortly!

Contemporary Art Exploration

VISUAL ARTS & CONTEMPORARY CRAFT

An interactive look at Harbourfront Centre's art and installations! Students class bring in a current news event for creative exploration through an art form. We choose and explore one on site installation and discuss the artist's statement/abstract. We begin our day by asking: "Art is another language, another way of communication. How many languages do you speak? What might have lead to this artist’s need to communicate their ideas globally?"

Contemporary Clay Vessels

VISUAL ARTS AND CONTEMPORARY CRAFT

Students explore our contemporary ceramics studio and talk to a Harbourfront Centre Artist in Residence to see the possibilities in contemporary ceramic craft. Using what they learn and various hand-building techniques (slab, pinch pot and coil) they create their own contemporary clay vessel to be fired and decorated. Please note there is an additional $3 fee per student for firing.

Multi-award nominated singer songwriter Marc Nadjiwan joins Harbourfront Centre in our pilot Artist-in-Residence programme. For a limited time, Marc will be available to work with aspiring songwriters and singers, helping them find their voices. More information will be posted shortly!

Urban Dance in Social Context

We explore the ramifications of the global youth explosion through hip hop dance, music and art culture. It’s all about respect ? how to achieve it and who deserves it. Harbourfront Centre’s Dalton Higgins ? one of Canada’s foremost experts in this field ? has worked with our Art Educators to provide unique insight into this global phenomenon.
