The largest children’s literary event in Canada, Forest of Reading® Festival of Trees™ returns for two days of prize ceremonies, fun workshops, author signings, and other exciting activities that celebrate the shared experience of reading. In 2009, this children’s choice award programme welcomed more than 7,000 students and the 2010 event will prove even bigger! Now included in your ticket price is the chance to attend ALOUD: a Celebration for Young Readers. Join one of six internationally celebrated authors to discover the stories behind their new books; for grades K to 12. Past ALOUD participants include Frank Beddor, Kathryn Otoshi and Jacqueline Wilson. Presented by Authors at Harbourfront Centre in partnership with the Ontario Library Association.

Multidisciplinary hands-on programmes – offered in partnership with leading professional dance and theatre companies (as part of Harbourfront Centre's World Stage and NextSteps – that expose students to performance and culture. Each programme includes a matinee performance, an interactive audience talk-back session, and can be followed by a hands-on workshop.

Experience the wonderful world of expressive movement in this imaginative workshop! Students work with a professional dancer to explore sensory contrast, tempo, direction and body coordination.

HALF DAY FULL DAY
Students experience Toronto’s waterfront through an artistic lens via an hour-long expedition through the Inner Harbour and island lagoons aboard a fully-enclosed, Coast Guard approved vessel. Life jacket drill is conducted prior to departure. Choose from a variety of grade-appropriate activities to complement the boat exploration. Students explore changing land usage and the natural and human impact on the waterfront environment. Call to discuss your options.

Clay Building Beasts
Grades K-4 (half day), 4-8 (full day)
Welcome to the exciting world of sculptural beasts! Your students learn about gargoyles, chimeras, sphinxes and grotesques from a variety of cultures, create a ceramic piece inspired by the building beasts of history and visit Harbourfront Centre's Ceramic Studio.
Clay Vessels
Grades 2-4 (half day), 4-12 (full day)
A vessel is more than a container, it also sheds light on the Artist culture that he or she lived in. Using various hand- building techniques (slab, pinch pot and coil), your students create their own clay vessel. Students also learn the rich history of clay vessels, from Greek Amphorae to contemporary craft as seen in our Ceramic Studio.
Clay Masks
Grades K-4 (half day), 4-8 (full day)
Your students create a 3-D mask using a variety of hand building techniques, discover the history of the mask from a variety of cultures.
Painting

Students explore the wonders of colour, shape and imagination through paint, and experiment with a variety of techniques to express themselves.
Puppet Making

Students learn the rich history of puppets from around the world, explore the world of stories and create a one of a kind puppet of their own using a variety of materials.

Storytelling in Miss Lou's Room

FULL DAY
Miss Lou was an educator, actress, dramatist, storyteller, poet and broadcaster. In this interactive museum dedicated to her incredible talents, students will learn about Miss Lou's legacy through story and song, and create their own unique tales, followed by a creative arts component. Choose from the following activities to compliment the storytelling portion:
