Max is a regular 10th-grade boy at Rushmore, a private school where he fails classes, but constantly organizes social activities. The plot thickens when he befriends a rich but depressed Herman Blume. Without knowing it, they both fall for a recently widowed teacher, Ms. Cross. When Max discovers Blume’s intentions, he seeks revenge, Blume retaliates, war ensues, and Max's troubles deepen.
